What Should Embalming Machine Preventive Maintenance Include?

Preventive maintenance on an embalming machine should involve considerably more than cleaning the reservoir, checking a filter, or confirming that the machine turns on.

A comprehensive service evaluates the complete machine, including its electrical, mechanical, fluid-delivery, control, and exterior components, along with the smaller service items that affect how the equipment functions and holds up in daily use.

The exact service varies between Porti-Boy, Duotronic, Dodge, and Frigid machines because they are not built or controlled identically, but the objective is the same: inspect the condition of the entire machine and address developing problems before they become larger repairs or unexpected downtime.

Electrical Wiring, Terminals and Connections

Electrical condition is an important part of a comprehensive service.

Wiring, terminals, connectors, and electrical connections should be inspected for deterioration, looseness, damage, fraying, or other changes that could affect reliable operation.

Switches and user controls should also be checked for proper operation rather than simply assuming they are functioning because the machine powers on.

On machines equipped with electronic pressure or motor-control assemblies, those systems and their associated wiring and connections should be included in the inspection as well.

Hoses, Fluid Lines and Connections

A comprehensive inspection does not mean replacing components simply because they are old or because they appear on a parts list.

The purpose is to determine the actual condition of the equipment.

Components that are functioning correctly remain in service. Parts that are worn, deteriorated, damaged, or no longer functioning properly can then be addressed based on what the machine actually needs.
