For more than 36 years, Cantrell's has inspected, serviced, repaired and maintained casket lowering devices in cemeteries throughout the Southeast.

That experience extends far beyond individual repairs. We've worked with these devices through every stage of their service life-from routine adjustment and preventative maintenance to diagnosing mechanical failures and rebuilding worn assemblies.

NOT SURE IF YOUR DEVICE NEEDS SERVICE?

Changes in operation can indicate wear, improper adjustment or developing mechanical problems.

CHANGES IN OPERATION

• Uneven Lowering

• Lowering too fast or too slow

• Jerky or rough operation

• Inconsistent operation

OTHER WARNING SIGNS

• Excessive noise or clicking

• Brake or governor issues

• Difficulty locking or releasing

• Failure to lower

CHANGES IN OPERATION SHOULDN'T BE IGNORED

Uneven lowering, changes in speed, unusual noise or difficulty operating a device can be early signs of a developing issue. Addressing those changes early can help prevent a minor service need from becoming an unexpected failure.

Sometimes, the first warning sign is simply: "it started going faster"

WHY LOWERING DEVICE SERVICE MATTERS.

A REAL EXAMPLE FROM THE FIELD

20 MINUTES
BEFORE A GRAVESIDE SERVICE

This device was already positioned at the graveside and expected to be used for a family arriving in approximately 20 minutes..

FIRST ANNUAL PLAN VISIT.

THE SITUATION

With the funeral service approaching, we would normally wait until after to begin a full inspection. However, we were told that two of the location's three devices had known issues and that this was considered the best operating device available.

With approximately 20 minutes before the family arrived, we made the decision to check it.

THE DEVICE BELIEVED TO BE THE BEST AVAILABLE WAS ACTUALLY IN THE POOREST MECHANICAL CONDITION OF THE THREE.

The governor assembly had failed after excessive movement allowed the device to operate at uncontrolled speed, and a governor weight had separated from the assembly.

We replaced the failed governor with a new Frigid OEM governor, corrected the governor-pad adjustment and had CONTROLLED OPERATION RESTORED 10 MINUTES before the family arrived.

After the graveside service, the device was returned with the other two devices so all three could receive a complete inspection and service.

Frigid casket lowering device governor repair

RESTORED BEFORE THE SERVICE

READY WHEN IT MATTERED

The failed governor was replaced and proper adjustments were made before the scheduled graveside service.

Recorded after the graveside service and before our complete service began, showing the smooth, controlled operation achieved through a time sensitive repair and adjustment.

MAINTENANCE NEEDS MORE THAN A SERVICE DATE.

Cemetery teams have enough to keep track of. After decades of working alongside them in the field, we understand that equipment maintenance shouldn't become another date, repair or service history someone has to remember.

And simply having a lowering device "serviced" doesn't create a maintenance program. its condition, service history, repairs and next service interval needs to remain connected over time.

THE TIMING WAS FORTUNATE.
THE RESULT WASN'T ACCIDENTAL.

This was the location's first scheduled visit under its new annual preventative maintenance plan. Arriving shortly before the graveside service was fortunate. Identifying the problem and knowing how to correct it came from decades of hands-on experience.

AND THAT WAS BEFORE THE COMPLETE SERVICE BEGAN.

Once the graveside service was complete, the device returned with the other two for the full inspection and preventative service scheduled for that visit. What you see above happened before that complete service even began.

CANTRELL ONSITE™

FROM SERVICE VISITS TO CONTINUING EQUIPMENT CARE.

Lowering devices enrolled in the Cantrell's Equipment Care Program are managed through Cantrell Onsite™—connecting service history, equipment condition, repairs and upcoming maintenance so cemetery teams have less to keep track of.

IT STARTED IN A TRUCK

36 years later, we're still going on site.

Cantrell's began by taking service directly to funeral homes and cemeteries. More than three decades later, that hasn't changed.
